You can browse, relax and refresh at the deck gallery gift shop and ice cream parlour, enjoying clear southern ocean views and garden views. Bookings for accommodation at stowaway cottage in hopetoun can also be booked at the deck. The deck has excellent ocean views and a magnificent garden setting, and is just half an hours drive south of ravensthorpe, on a sealed bitumen road. Although extensively renovated, much of the original building can be viewed and enjoyed. The building that houses the deck was the town's original post office and telegraph station, it was built around the time the town was founded in 1901. The picturesque town of hopetoun is also a gateway to the world renowned fitzgerald river national park, but you will need a few extra days to explore that. Once you have visited the display, or a freshly brewed coffee, enjoy italian gourmet ice cream, you can relax and refresh at the deck, or go for some retail therapy. Hopetoun is located between two bays and so offers a perfect vantage point, and a well serviced resting place which links the stunning coastline between esperance and albany, (directly south of wave rock in hyden), popular for both it's natural beauty and as an ocean playground. You can view wild seals on seal island just off shore from the comfort of the deck, or just take in the fabulous display and discover what makes this part of the coast so special. In 2003, the deck has established a new attraction - the southern ocean discovery centre - which provides a fascinating insight into the natural wonders of the southern ocean and helps guide the tourist, traveller and holiday maker to the unique treasures of this stunning coastline. You will easily find the deck in hopetoun, located between esperance and albany, on the coast directly south of wave rock and hyden. In this recently renovated old post office building, an historic building for the town, you will feel a living link to history when you visit. Also available is internet access, gifts, australian and new release books, national park passes, maps, souvenirs and tourist information. The deck is open from september to may.
